Earlier reviews of the thoughtfully designed Withings WiFi Body Scale motivated me to purchase one. Using background, Image tracking my weight daily during the last a couple of years and i also was greater than wanting to automate the data gathering so I could focus more about the info analysis. I have been employing a Homedics unit that tracks weight, BIA unwanted weight, along with water plus a Soehnle unit that records body mass. My Homedics unit is more erratic compared to the Sohenle as successive measurements produce different readings and it also may seem to underestimate body mass by about 1 lb usually. The BMI based unwanted weight requires that you input your activity status with a three step scale. I lead an incredibly active life (2600+ calories each day on the average). Only identify myself as being on the highest fitness level, my body fat readings become around 5%, this does not match up against an underwater weight test (breath out completely, stay still while floating in a water tank to get weighed) in spite of this I became about 14% fat. Therefore i switched to level two and today the Homedics unit says My business is about 9% fat. If I switch the signal from the minimum level I purchase numbers closer to 20%.
The Withings unit works like a dream, the setup on my home WiFi network worked without hitches. You do your initial configuration spanning a USB link after which the unit associates while using access point and from you go. The net interface is visually slick, just a bit sluggish on my aging Vista laptop, but pleasant overall. The system does a superb job of guessing your identity from your weight but if your weight swings by about 5 lbs., which mine does, it places the reading into an unknown category. It is possible to manually associate the reading with your profile online.
One of several poor reviews came from somebody who noted which the unit didn't record excess fat. This happens when the unit senses it's this is not on an amount surface. Arrows at the four corners flash so that you can nudge someone to center yourself correctly. Folks who wants stabilize the system will not go by the wobbly weight display. Something similar happens if you step on the platform together with your sneakers on. I suspect that in cases like this the device measures an infinite impedance from the non-conducting shoes, recognizes this as abnormal, and aborts.
There is a notes field where one can annotate your readings. The url to Google Health works seamlessly with the exception that the notes seems not to ever hold over. I most certainly will update down the line the reliability from the readings. At first, the extra weight appears to be an overestimates by a bit under 1 lb. in comparison with a professionally calibrated cantilever style scale at the gym. The BMI based fat measurements are most often inside same range as being the Homedics and the Withings unit does provides a choice between "2009 version", "2010 version" and "Athlete version".
